The Technology of Participation™ (ToP™) is a collection of group facilitation methods supported by a body of knowledge and principles. Developed by the Institute of Cultural Affairs over the last 60 years, ToP™ is part of the Institute’s wider interest in social innovation methods applied at individual, organisational, and societal levels.
In Australia, ToP™ facilitation methods have been used and trained in since the 1970s. Areas include: community development projects; Landcare and the reconciliation movement; local, state and national government agencies; plus businesses of diverse sizes.
This masterclass featured:
- An overview of ToP™ methods and the structural framework underlying them.
- An experiential introduction to one of the foundational ToP™ methods.
- Q+A.
The masterclass was facilitated by David Jago from Brisbane and Kevin Balm from Melbourne. Both David and Kevin are Certified ToP™ Facilitators (CToPF) and Authorised ToP™ Trainers (AToPT). They use the ToP methods in their facilitation and training practices serving clients in the community, non-profit, private, voluntary, government and inter-government sectors across Australia and Asia. David and Kevin are current board members of the Institute of Cultural Affairs Australasia.
